USAAF Type P-1 flight helmet. Early example. Front has traditional Army Air Corps winged star decal. Liner crown pad is likewise embossed with USAAF winged star. Liner has original OD cotton webbing and embroidered tag reading “Sling Assembly for Helmet | Pilots Protective Type P-1 | Drawing No. 47D3185 | Contract No. W33-038 | AC-19479 – (19413) | Switlik Parachute Co. Inc.” Retains telecommunications jack (marked “U-75/U” and “Cadmium Bronze Wire”), headset cups and leather chinstrap. | This lot has a reserve.
Condition
Very good. Leather liner components intact, pliable. Some degradation of interior foam. Exterior chipped, scratched but retains 90% finish and decal.
