French judicial or civil official’s smallsword, ca. 1780-1820. Blade length 32.75 inches. Overall length 38 inches. Trefoil blade has talismanic engraved decoration and is marked “W” at the ricasso, probably for Weyersberg. Leather washer present at base of blade. Fine ribbed mother of pearl grip. Silvered clamshell guard with knuckle bow and lion’s head figural quillon. Clamshells has portrait of Justitia in raised relief. She is sitting on a lion, holding a set of scales and a club with a snake wrapped around it. This lot has a reserve.
