A Muromachi period mumei wakizashi. Midare hamon pattern. 480 gram blade. Cutting edge (Nagasa) is approximately 19 inches (1.59 shaku). Curvature (sori) is about a quarter inch. Width of blade (motohaba) is approx. 1.1 inches. Blade thickness is approximately a quarter inch. While this blade is confidently dated to the Muromachi period (1336-1573) by profile and construction; it has previously been dated explicitly to 1396 – the reasons for this exact date are unclear at present. Tsuba and associated gear are all modern replacements. This lot has a reserve.
