US Civil War Etched & Inscribed Officer Sword

An officer’s infantry saber that has been etched and inscribed on the guard by Clauberg of Solingen. The guard marks it as a gift to ‘Lieutenant Peter J. Quinn,’ and dates the presentation to 1880. A ‘Peter Quinn’ had served in the Confederate Army during the US Civil War, achieving the rank of lieutenant by the end of the war – in 1880, this same Quinn retired as sheriff and retreated from public view. This blade is marked as having been produced by Clauberg of Solingen, a popular choice for Civil War veterans during and after the war for quality etched presentation blades. Shark skin grip. Blade is just over 32 inches. In scabbard, item is 39 inches pommel to sword tip.
