Original WWII German 1-meter stereoscopic rangefinder (Entfernungsmesser 1m Raumbild 36). Cased bring-back example featuring a one-meter base length and 6x magnification. Data plates stamped “FWQ NR. 17984 1942,” identifying manufacturer as Saalfelder Apparatebau GmbH, and model designation “Em 1m R36 m. f. M.o.Beob.U. Vergr. 6x.” Other kit contents are: First, the original wood and metal-reinforced transit case measuring approximately 45 by 9 by 7 inches. Second, an illumination and maintenance kit comprising two small control panels with rotary dials marked “Beleuchtung der Meßmarken,” a knurled metal battery tube (Batterierohr), a 3x3x3-inch battery storage tin and a spare light bulb. Third, a heavy metal tripod cradle mounting bracket. Fourth, a 1-meter calibration slat (Justierlatte) with fold-out legs. Fifth, a pair of metal objective sun shades (Sonnenblenden). Sixth, an internal storage graphic placard illustrating the rangefinder, marked “2646.” The lot also includes the original AG USFET Form No. 33 capture certificate dated October 30, 1945, signed by Major James M. Cassady, officially authorizing Sgt. L.D. Cunningham to retain the rangefinder as a legitimate war trophy. Exterior of case stenciled with Cunningham’s identification. | This lot has a reserve.
